April 13, 2015
How are you doing today? I’m just back from a fun Zumba class – one of my favorite ways to feel good in my body.
What do you do to feel good in yours? Are you getting Spring fever yet?
Do you feel the need to shake things up in your life?
After some months of holiday indulgences and decreased exercise you may be feeling a little sluggish and not quite yourself. It’s normal (and good) for our bodies to slow down during the winter but it can be challenging to get moving again and to lighten up.
I wrote today’s article, “8 Ways to Lighten Up (your body)”, to inspire you. Check it out below. It touches on many of the things we’ll address in my upcoming Fresh Start Detox 360 class, which starts next week, April 23rd.
We’ll go deeply into each of these topics to really learn how to live a healthy “detox” lifestyle, and not just temporarily (although those results are fantastic), but for the rest of your life.

8 Ways To Lighten Up (your body)
These tips focus on the body, specifically the liver, digestive system and lymphatic system. Part 2, coming soon, will offer even more ways to lighten up
1. Eat Organic – the less pesticide residue your liver has to work to eliminate, the better it can do its job, which is hugely important. Congested livers can make for imbalanced hormones, allergies, bad moods, pain, hypertension, insomnia and more.
2. Drink Lots of Clean Water – this too allows your body to function optimally. Most people are chronically dehydrated and this causes all sorts of distress in the body. And speaking of water, try warm water with a lemon squeezed into it each morning to support the liver.
3. Eat “Happy Liver” foods – beets, artichokes, greens and citrus fruits can all assist the liver in its daily detoxification activities.
4. Reduce Inflammation-producing foods – sugar, dairy, alcohol, margarine, vegetable oils and most grains have all been shown to produce inflammation in the body, leading to a whole host of uncomfortable body symptoms.
5. Reduce Allergy-producing foods – some foods cause delayed-onset allergic symptoms that you may not even realize you’re having. These can range from skin rashes to headaches to insomnia – really varied and tricky to identify. Some of these foods include gluten, soy and dairy. Reducing these triggers can be a remarkable way to lighten up your body and start to feel really well. Try a week off of these foods and see how you feel.
6. Exercise – if you’re currently not exercising, start with a walk around your neighborhood. This has the added benefit of getting you out into nature, which will always lighten you up. Or how about dancing around to some great music with your kids or your honey, or yourself, of course. Try just one song – it will definitely perk you up. Another nice indoor activity is using a rebounder. These are kind of like mini trampolines that you gently bounce on. It’s an ideal way to stimulate the lymphatic system which stores cellular waste and easily gets clogged up with poor nutrition and stress.
7. Drink a (whole) Lemon – another way to support the lymphatic system. Just put one organic lemon (the WHOLE lemon: peel, seeds and all; but cut it up first), 1.5 cups of any organic juice and one tablespoon of organic olive oil into a blender . Blend for a couple minutes, strain and drink. A tasty and effective way to de-clog your system.
8. Brush Your Skin – dry-brushing your skin (in the shower before you turn on the water) is another great tool to help your lymphatic system, and your body in general (the skin is another “organ” of detox). You use a gentle brush or mitt and brush toward the heart.
9. Essential Oils – lemon, lime, orange and lemongrass can all boost energy, mood and detoxification. A drop or 2 on a tissue to inhale, or on the bottoms of your feet to absorb are both easy and effective methods.
I hope you can incorporate one or two of these suggestions to lighten up your body and feel better now. If you want to learn more and have specific guidance along the way, join me in my upcoming class: Fresh Start Detox 360 https://www.healwithcolleen.com/detox360 . I look forward to having you!
